Pro-Palestine protesters scream 'F*** Joe Biden' at White House fence in for 'March4Gaza'
WASHINGTON (TND) — A large, angry mob of pro-Palestinian protesters screamed and chanted “f*** Joe Biden” as they tried to rip down the fence around The White House on Saturday night. They threw what appeared to be water bottles and other containers at the fence, while chanting expletives over and over.
There are reports that some personnel were even evacuated from the grounds, because the protest started growing increasingly violent.
An online video shows the crowd shaking the fence, causing actual damage. That's when the Secret Service rallied to keep the mob back.
The protest started peacefully hours earlier, when thousands gathered in Washington, D.C. Saturday afternoon to chants of "Hey hey, ho ho, the occupation has got to go," and "Free, free, free Palestine" as the "March4Gaza" kicked off at Freedom Plaza.
Protestors and rally leaders took particular aim at President Joe Biden and other top members of his administration, chanting slogans like "Biden, Biden you're a liar, we demand a ceasefire" and "bloody Blinken, genocide Joe, both of them have got to go," due to their prominent pro-Israeli stance during the conflict.
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken dismissed the charges of genocide against Israel as "meritless" during remarks he gave at the U.S. Embassy of Jerusalem Wednesday. "It is particularly galling given that those who are attacking Israel – Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and their backer Iran – openly call for the annihilation of Israel and the mass murder of Jews."Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the U.S., and the grassroots advocacy group American Muslims for Palestine organized the rally – which is expected to also include a march to the White House later in the afternoon – as part of activists' ongoing efforts to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.
CAIR announced Thursday the planned speakers include Dr. Cornel West, Dr. Ilyasah Shabazz -- the daughter of Malcolm X -- Medea Benjamin, the director of the feminist anti-war group Code Pink.
Palestinian families from Gaza whose family members have been killed, injured, displaced and abducted in Israel’s assault on Gaza over the past three months also plan to share their stories during the rally," the group said in a press release. The rally comes after Israel insisted at the United Nation’s highest court that its war in Gaza is a legitimate defense of its people. Israel, along with the United States, are being sued by a group of nations led by the former apartheid state South Africa over accusations that the two countries are conducting and or aiding genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Pres. Biden had a speech Monday, about the state of hate in the U.S., disrupted by protestors calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. While the protests were drowned out by chants of "four more years" by the crowd, Biden also acknowledged the protestors and said he understood their passion.
Many speakers also cited Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech, as the "March4Gaza" coincided with the MLK day holiday weekend.
