Matthew Perry's death was not caused by meth or fentanyl overdose, TMZ says

LOS ANGELES (TND) — Initial test results indicate Matthew Perry's sudden death was not caused by a fentanyl or meth overdose, according to TMZ.
The media outlet shared the development on Wednesday, citing law enforcement sources.
Investigators ran a less-in-depth test on Perry which revealed he did not have fentanyl or meth in his system," TMZ noted. "However, it's important to note, more in-depth tests are still being conducted as part of toxicology to analyze whether any other illegal drugs present in his blood -- and if the levels of any prescription meds were at harmful doses."Perry, 54, was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Saturday, according to coroner's records. An investigation into how Perry died is ongoing, and it may take weeks before his cause of death is determined.
Perry's body was discovered in a hot tub, said unnamed sources cited by TMZ, which was the first to report the news.
Perry's last Instagram post featured a photo of him in the hot tub.
"Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I'm Mattman," he wrote on October 23.
Perry played Chandler Bing on the show alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.
Fans created a makeshift memorial for Perry, as they lefts flowers and other items outside the building known as the "Friends" building in New York.
Perry's memoir, which was released a year ago, was the number one selling book on Amazon just a few days after the actor's death.
The autobiography, “Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing,” was a bestseller on Wednesday, replacing Britney Spears' “The Woman In Me” at the top of the Amazon charts.
In the book, the "Friend's" star shared details about his 10 years on the hit show. He also discussed his battle with substance abuse.
Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. My friends call me Matty. And I should be dead," Perry noted in the book, citing his drug addiction and alcohol use. While reports have been swirling that Kudrow plans to adopt Perry's dog, Alfred, PEOPLE said the reports aren't true, as the dog has been living with Perry's ex girlfriend, Molly Hurwitz.
The media outlet reported that Perry shared Alfred -- a doodle mix -- with Hurwitz. They started dating in 2018 and got engaged in November 2020 before breaking up in June 2021.
