Lakemont Park closing rides for 2024 season, park officials announce
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Officials with Lakemont Park announced Friday that the park will be closing its rides for the 2024 season.
Park officials cited a decline in attendance, increased maintenance costs and other financial issues as the reasoning for closing the amusement rides, including the Skyliner and Leap the Dips.
“This was a difficult decision to make. We hope our community will find new ways to enjoy our beautiful grounds as we update the Lakemont Park experience," said Andrea Cohen, President of Lakemont Park.
Park officials noted that the four battings cages and basketball courts, volleyball courts and mini-golf courses will remain open to the public, as well as the pavilions.
Lakemont will also continue to host the Central Blair Recreation Commission Men’s Summer League, school picnics and summer camps.
Officials say they also met with businesses and organizations within the community about continuing to host various events.
“Our community has enjoyed the Park grounds since 1894. Lakemont Park is a perfect event gathering place, allowing family and friends to connect outdoors. We enjoy partnering with local organizations to host their special events and fundraisers, using our conveniently located facility,” stated Cohen.
Lakemont Park will reopen for the 2024 season in the spring.
