A popular Johnstown restaurant has announced plans for a $1.2 million expansion that would bring a large outdoor dining courtyard and top floor cigar bar to downtown.

The owners of Balance Restaurant, Intrignia Incorporated, say the company bought the three properties located next to Mission Inn Event Space on Main Street.

They say they’re planning do develop “a new casual restaurant, a large outdoor dining courtyard, additional banquet space, a top floor cigar bar, and an updated kitchen to expand catering operations. Once the project is completed, officials say the five properties collectively will be called the “Balance Main Street Plaza.”

"We are thrilled for the expansion and the opportunity to continue on the themes we have developed - excellent guest experience, fresh, delicious food, and the constant choice between healthy and indulgent - that we strive to create every day at Balance Restaurant," says co-owner and General Manager Amanda Artim.

"This is a testament to Amanda, Executive Chef Dallas Pursley, and the entire staff at Balance Restaurant whose hard work and determination made the restaurant a success despite the challenges they faced,” added Intrignia Inc. President Mike Artim. “It is our belief in them, and in our community, that made the opportunity to purchase these iconic properties an easy decision."

Intrignia Inc. says the company acquired the former Mission Inn building in Oct. of 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic put their expansion plans on hold.

As for the newly announced expansion, the company says the project is made possible through funding for Bridgeway Capital and the City of Johnstown.

Balance Restaurant opened in March 2018.
