As we told you on Thursday, the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona will be hosting a special event to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the K4 1361 steam locomotive rolling out of the Altoona production shops.

The museum currently has a fundraising campaign underway to cover the restoration costs.

Another railroading heritage site, the Everett Railroad Company, is stepping up to help by offering passengers a special steam excursion.

On May 6th, at noon, the railroad’s steam locomotive number 11 will haul passengers on an hour-long excursion.

The whistle of the K4 1361 will be affixed to the locomotive, and once again announce its approach.

Officials say 100% of the ticket proceeds from the special event will go towards the K4’s restoration.

“The K4 steam locomotive at the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum is a significant locomotive for the history of this area. We want to support the restoration of this locomotive, and by doing this special excursion, there is an opportunity for people to get out and have a train ride in equipment from the 1920’s, from that era, and support the museum.”

Tickets for the steam excursion are available on the Everett Railroad’s website.
