Day two of state wrestling and several district hoop champs
JOHNSTOWN -- Today was the final day of the PIAA State Wrestling Championship. One local wrestler took home silver in the AAA tournament. Trey Kibe from Mifflin County won his semifinal bout by a 4-2 decision. Kibe lost on the championship mat by a close 3-2 decision. On the hardwood, several local teams were crowned district champions.
In District 6-AAA boys action. Bishop Guilfoyle took home the district title with a 45-36 win over Westmont Hilltop. In the District 6-AAAAAA games, both Altoona squads won in overtime to take home hardware. The boys beat Mifflin County 56-49. The girls also beat Mifflin County 59 to 49. In the District 6-AAAAA girls game, Hollidaysburg won the district title over Central Mountain 56-40.
In District 5 hoops, Conemaugh Township boys won the District 5-AA title over Northern Bedford 65-55. In girls action, Shanksville-Stoneycreek picked up their second consecutive District 5-A championship with a 43-34 win over Berlin .
